South African Teams

The South African Team that participated in the Golden Shears World Sheep Shearing and Wool Handling Championships consisted of

Miss Elna Kitching and Mr. Luvo Kiyane – Wool Handling, Mr. Abel Notsi and Mr. Themba Khoza – machine shearing and Mr. Mayenzeke

Shweni and Mr. Zweliwile Hans – Blade Shearing. The World Championships took place in Gorey, Ireland, from the 22nd to the 26th of

May 2014.

The team that will participate in the Tri-Nations event between SA, New Zealand and Australia from the 20th of November to the 26th of

November 2014 will be: Miss Elna Kitching and Mr. Thomas Calldo – wool handling, Mr. Shweni and Hans – blade shearing and Mr. DG

Snyman and Abel Notsi – machine shearers. The team will be accompanied by two international judges – Mr. Philip Cronje – shearing and

Mr. Herman Maartens – wool handling. Mr. Jan Louis Venter accompanies the team as shoulder judge – wool handling. Mr. Hendrik Botha,

President of the SA Sheep Shearing Federation will accompany the team as Team Manager.

Mayenzeki Shweni at the 2012 world shearing championships

Congratulations to Mayenzeke Shweni who was crowned NZ Open champion blade shearer on Saturday 3 March at the World Shearing Championships in Masterton, New Zealand. Shweni’s teammate, three-time champion Zweliwile Hans, had finished second in the blade shearing division.

In the World Shearing Championships, they exchanged places with Zwelile winning and Mayenzeke coming in second. See more results for the 2012 World Shearing Championships.
